The local column notes poor profits from cantaloupe crops while the Telchester fair drew many visitors. Denton banks and a new Harrington Bank are mentioned, with local business expansions and repairs. Upcoming events include races at Gentlemen's Driving Park and a last moonlight excursion to Rehoboth.
In the Orphans Court on Tuesday last, guardian Josephine M. Downes was authorized to improve and repair wards' property. Administrators Kinder presented final receipts. Nichols submitted a first and partial administration account. Moore filed an inventory. order to sell granted. Wisher real estate sale ratified. Bullock presented desperate debts and final administration, approved.
A large stock of new goods is arriving and an announcement of the opening of their handsome new store will be made later.
The Denton county Republican convention at Masonic Hall adjourned after a secret session without nominations. Senator Harry A Roe declined a renomination, leaving the slate unsettled. Leaders hope Roe may head the ticket later, with Hobbs and other figures discussed for various posts amid a blunt platform and internal party maneuvering.
The record notes the illness of popular young druggist A. L. Duffey in Washington under his mother's care. Numerous visitors pass through: Misses Mary and Louise Fleetwood of Denton and Sallie Fleetwood of Virginia visit Mrs. Saulsbury Sparks. Holt relatives from Virginia and Wilmington join ten days at Betterton with Arthur Holt and Mary Fleming. The Russoms return from Ocean Grove. Mollie Short visits Evelyn Fleming in Baltimore. Pennington visits in Washington, D. C. Annie Holt of Cordova spends time with Aunt Thompson. Olae Litzenberg of Wilmington stays with Lizzie Fisher. Grace Pennington visits Andersontown.
Mr Joseph W Case formerly of this town is critically ill at the Jewish Hospital Philadelphia where he was recently operated on for appendicitis. Messrs Nathaniel Horsey of S H Thomas M Green and Warren Vansant are laying sewers to connect their properties with the town system. Miss Ethel Scott of Chester county Pa is the guest of Mrs George H Russell. Mr and Mrs William Stevens have returned to Wilmington.
Marydlel Mr 7 Seward Dailey and Miss Effa W Heather visited relatives at Telchester this week. Mr and Mrs Chas W Jacobs left Thursday for Grand Rapids Mich for a several week stay. Gooden. Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Dill of Wilmington visit Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Dill. Mrs. Sarah Poore dies August 15 at her son John Poore's home in Petersburg Del at 57, leaving 6 children 30 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
At a Denton town commissioners meeting on Monday night the board decided to hire civil engineer Wm. H. Abler to survey and estimate sewer construction in the town’s principal streets. A sewerage system is needed and the board plans further public improvement steps soon, with citizen support anticipated.
Seaport style patterns in wall coverings including sea piece gilt seapiece and window shades offered at 20 cents each by Thomas and Messer located at 1015 West Baltimore Street Baltimore.
Sheriff James A. Giannon of Talbot county arrested James Laughlin of Pittsburgh, visiting Talbot. Laughlin was charged with speeding toward Easton and not stopping when called, frightening L. Frank Blossom's horse which struck the plaintiff with the shaft. Laughlin fined $25 plus costs, with an appeal. Blossom plans $500 damages. Lawyers Goldsborough and Deweese represented parties.
Mayor A W Dick notes Rehoboth has its best season yet with every cottage occupied and boarding houses full. Real estate trends upward though selling interest seems muted. Projections include two large hotels, one at the former Bright House site and another at the Casino site, backed by a Pittsburg syndicate and local investors.
Mrs John Gummere returns from Philadelphia visit. Mrs Jackson and children of Greensboro visit Mr James Short. George P Scotten builds a new house. Mrs Susan Smith visits her brother Rev T H Gullett. Mrs James Faulkner returns from Chester. Samuel Craig is all.

Miss Nora Christopher and Mr. Raymond Deen united in marriage by Rev C W Strickland at Harmony M E Church last Saturday at noon. The bride, in white lace over silk with orange blossom veil, carried roses and maidenhair fern. Attendants included maid of honor Bertha Deen and bridesmaids in white silk over yellow. Groom's party featured Bruce Deen as best man and several Deen family members. A wedding dinner followed at the bride's home, after which the couple departed for Ocean City.
Mr N Alex Hutson aged 64 died at his home after paralysis from brain trouble. He lived in Denton many years, earlier in Delaware Crumpton and Baltimore. A tinner by trade he later became justice of the peace, studied law, and practiced until death. He was examiner in chancery and register of voters. Three marriages produced one daughter Mrs Edward Boyer. Funeral Sunday conducted by Rev J T Richardson with Heptasophs in a body.
The Andrew Downies Monster will exhibit in Denton for two performances on Monday, September 11, afternoon and evening. It promises a larger, more spectacular show with numerous features and novelties. A free street display at 10:30 a.m. will advertise the exhibition. Doors open at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is 10 cents for children under 12 and 25 cents for adults.
Mrs Kate Mott of Fairfield Iowa known as Grandma Mott urges travelers to carry Chamberlains Colic Cholera and Diarrhea Remedy in warm weather. She claims one or two doses cure the worst summer complaint and says they keep it at hand at all times for household use.
Mrs. Louise Fountain 78 widow of Marcy Fountain who was once a leading county figure died Thursday while visiting Centreville relatives. She recently visited Denton and Greensborough. Resident of Chestertown she leaves daughter Mrs. C. E. Crane and three other daughters Mrs. Philip Winter of Jacksonville Florida Mrs. Nathaniel T. Baker of Baltimore and two sons John C. Fountain of Queen Anne and Walter Fountain of Texas. Funeral was at Centraville with interment London Cemetery in Baltimore.
