Bridgeville defeated Denton 5-4 and 8-6 while beating Hickman 11-8 in Port Horts Port Horts Mar Del Softball League. Denton edged Andrewsville 6-5. Finals proceed until a champion is decided.
WBAL Radio plans to broadcast all Colt games this season with Chuck Thompson Bailey Goss and Vince Bagli providing color and play by play. The opener is Sunday September 17 at the Stadium against the Rams followed by a September 24 visit from the Detroit Lions and an October 1 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings all at 2 pm local time.
Auto racing is planned with NASCAR Modified and Sportsman events Fridays at 8 30 PM at Georgetown Speedway Delaware. The Southern 500 runs Sept 4 at Darlington South Carolina. The Old Dominion 500 is Sept 24 at Martinsville Virginia. Sept 23 features 100 laps of Modified and Sportsman. 15 lap heats and a 70 lap feature with a $17 450 purse.
Paul Walker from Milton Del led the 25-lap feature at Georgetown Speedway starting on the second lap and never relinquished the lead. Johnny Martin George Harri son Horace Williams Jim Smith George Smith and Phil Gemenden finished behind. Bill Priestly won the Hobby heat Horace Williams won the Sportsman and Walker won the modified heat. Clifford Downes won the Demolition Derby in a 54 Plymouth. Doug Morgan notes grandstand rebuilding to finish before tonight and urges safe driving over the weekend.
Jim Hurubise won both 50 lap heats at Langhorne Speedway in the world’s fastest circular mile event last Sunday. A J Foyt, fastest qualifier for the first 50, finished second in his No 1 car. Parnelli Jones placed well in both heats with Don Branson and Al Keller among the top finishers. Foyt sustained an eye injury in the day’s events.
