Teachers Attend Maryland State Convention In Baltimore

Caroline County teachers gathered in Baltimore for the Maryland State Teachers Association convention on Oct. 23 and 24. They toured city schools, joined group meetings, and heard Dr. Hutchins of the University of Chicago lecture at Baltimore City College. Dr Emil Ludwig spoke on The Makers of Todays History. Caroline High and Grammar School teachers visited Baltimore City College Poly technic Institute Forest Park High School and Montebello School. The All Maryland High School Orchestra performed its tenth annual concert with 115 musicians, including soloists from Caroline High School, led by Irvin Smith. Members Clyde Pentz Louie Schlegel Austin Murphy Henry Price and Frances Smith traveled to Baltimore for the event and auditions.

Clubwomen's Forum Set for November 5 at Hillsboro

The Caroline County Federation of Women's Clubs hosts its first forum at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Hillsboro on November 5. State chairmen Estelle T. Moore and John Paul Troy will participate, with Harold E. Donnell of Baltimore as principal speaker on Youth and Crime Prevention. A musical program directed by Irvin Smith of Denton will follow.

Display of Electrical Poultry Equipment at County Show

In Caroline county the 4-H Electric Club debuts at Preston School with other clubs in the county. The Denton Poultry and Farm Products Show on November 10th to 12th features working models of electrical appliances including a feed mill and electric brooders. A Big Ben clock controlled poultry house lights system and other innovations are highlighted to attract farm families and rural residents.

Passengers To Fly To Philippines

The first commercial passenger flight between the United States and the Philippines is set for October 29 with regular weekly service to follow. More than 1,000 people have applied. The trip will take six days and cover 8,200 miles at a cost of 900 dollars.

Caroline Ben efits Greatly By New Deal in Caroline County

Federal Emergency Agencies tabulated funding activity in Caroline County from March 4, 1933, to June 30, 1936. Arthur E. Hungerford, state director for Maryland, released the summary showing total grants and loans of 1,130,050, with 799,573 in loans closed or insured. Highlights include Farm Credit Administration loans and various agency grants, detailing lines for Reconstruction Finance, Resettlement, Works Progress, and Housing programs amid New Deal relief efforts.
