AAA Elects Dr Withers As Chairman

Dr. E. F. Withers of Denton was elected Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Easton Branch of The Automobile Club of Maryland at a luncheon in Avon Hotel. S. M. Oman was elected vice chairman and 8. J. Lee re elected secretary. New members include Charles A. Simpson of Trappe and Roger N. Christopher of Federalsburg. The board approved changing a boulevard stop sign at Maryland No 40 and Cordova road for safety. Manager Moffett reported record branch membership and 150 safety patrols in 15 sections.

Jack Benny Leads Gay College Comedy in College Holiday

The Ridgely Theatre screens College Holiday on November 1 2 and 8 led by Jack Benny George Burns and Gracie Allen with Martha Raye and Mary Boland among others. The film follows loony cultists at a fashionable hotel as Benny tries to save it from bankruptcy while Gracie Allen runs the science guided courtship. Idol of the Crowds opens November 4 at the same theatre with fast paced action from motorcycle taxis to roller rinks and hockey scenes.

Problems of Democracy Class Hears A Special Discourse

The Senior P. O. D. class heard Mr. Max Chambers speak on beautifying the community and roadside projects in Federalsburg Hurlock and Preston. He urged trees along highways and other civic improvements while students proposed widening Main Street and adding lights and one way streets.

Big Hallowe'en Parade and Dance Monday in Denton

Denton hosts a Halloween parade and dance Monday with Caroline Post No 29 of The American Legion sponsoring. The parade forms at seven in front of the Court House featuring a band and various costumes. amateur acts open first, followed by a 6th and Gay street dance with a 50 cent admission. First prizes total 5 and 3 dollars with many merchandise prizes. Jane Withers lookalikes admitted free to the theater.

Bogus Collectors Of Social Security Funds Face Prosecution

The Social Security Board requested criminal investigation by the Department of Justice into bogus collectors who misrepresent themselves as agents of the board to obtain payments from old age insurance participants. The board warned there are no authorized collectors or agents and cautioned the public against paying anyone claiming such authority.
