Nerbert F. Prytherch of the U S bureau of fisheries says the oyster industry now ranks as the nation’s most valuable fishery. It harvests about 73,000 tons annually, employs over 50,000 people, and yields a crop valued above 14 million dollars. The work spans every seacoast state from Cape Cod to the Rio Grande and from Puget Sound to San Francisco.
