Early English boxer James Figg is recognized as England's boxing champion though his birth date is uncertain, estimated around 1005. He weighed about 185 pounds, stood nearly six feet, born in Thame Oxfordshire, died December 8 1784 and was a skilled swordsman and cudgeler before 1719. He later specialized in boxing, defeating every opponent in stand up bouts.
