Telephone Improvements Authorized by Chesapeake and Potomac
Immediate improvements to Maryland telephones costing 562721 were approved by The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company executive committee in September. Part of a 1921 Maryland program of 3000000, the work adds wire, installs telephones, and buys equipment for central offices across the state. Baltimore City gets 98030, Salisbury 16325, with other smaller allocations to meet rising demand and reduce toll switchboard strain from six to nine positions through 1925. A general overhaul of central office equipment accompanies the growth, including replacing cable with rear pole distributions in Baltimore areas.

Possible Discontinuation of Chesapeake Steamer Lines Hinted
President Rea of Pennsylvania Railroad suggested the bay steamer lines serving Love Point Claiborne and related routes might be discontinued though no definite plan was stated He argued subsidies are needed as Maryland has not subsidized these ferries while the company views the Eastern Shore as its territory and would require Public Service Commission approval to end service, showing the lines may be kept or reassessed rather than abruptly halted.

Irrigation on the Shore for Maryland Crops
The Eastern Shore's drought history prompts irrigation as the sole viable method to safeguard crops. Despite high upfront costs, long term benefits could dwarf annual drought losses. Daniel Banks argues irrigation can be adopted at one eighth the cost of Western states with eightfold returns, while Maryland fruit losses run high. University expert B. Shaw cites a projected 550000 bushels apple and small fruit shortfall from drought, with widespread potato damage and blight across counties.
