Maryland Farmers Benefit From Wheat Underseeding Policy
Maryland officials announce a lenient policy for underseeding wheat as part of 1954 allotment programs. Farmers seeding 90 to 100 percent of their 1954 wheat allotment will not face penalties in future allotments. The rule treats underseeded farms as if fully seeded, within a 10 percent cap, to ease control program burdens. Also noted is a federal tax amortization provision for grain storage structures built after 1952, allowing 60 months depreciation, plus available facility loans covering up to 80 percent of costs through the Commodity Credit Corporation.
