School Board To Improve Greensboro High School Addition

The Board of Education received word from Abel Wolman that a grant for construction of a Greensboro high school addition has been approved for 20 250 dollars. Plans call for four new classrooms two lavatories a teachers and a students rest room and a 425 seat auditorium. The two story building may later add two more classrooms. Total project cost not to exceed 45 000 dollars with a target under 415 000. Remodeling of the current auditorium into classrooms is planned.

Popular Baritone in Recital at Denton M. E. Church

Denton residents will attend a Tuesday evening recital at the Denton Methodist Episcopal Church. James Arthur Richards, a Western Maryland College senior and Glee Club lead, will perform with Ruth Sherman Jones as piano accompanist. Edenton Trio adds several numbers including Narcissus. Admission is a silver offering. program organized by Rev. M. S. Andrews and the Willing Workers class.

E. S. Public Service Has New Owner

The Associated Gas and Electric Company gained control of the Delmarva Public Service system and Virginia Public Service Company, with common stock held by Chase National Bank as collateral. The move preserves management and policy while shifting ownership, affecting about 115,000 customers across Maryland Virginia and Delaware. Directors include F W C Webb Salisbury and others from New York Dover Bridgeville and Cambridge.

Roosevelt to attend shore bridge opening on Eastern Shore

President Roosevelt will visit Maryland on Saturday October 26 for the Choptank River Bridge opening ceremony announced by Senator Radcliffe. The bridge costing about 1 million dollars connects Easton and Cambridge. Plan calls for the Sequoia to break a ribbon and portions sold for Easton and Cambridge hospital funds. This will be his third mainland Eastern Shore visit after prior stays in Talbot county and Chester Town.

Circuit Court Opens In Denton For October Term

The fall term of the Circuit Court for Caroline county convenes in Denton on Monday October 7 with 9 appearances, 57 trials, 2 petitions, 12 appeals and errors, 1 criminal continuance, 15 criminal appeals, 2 court recognizances and 8 recognizances. The criminal continuance concerns Gilbert Lare charged with breaking into and stealing from the Federalsburg storehouse of Jacob O Williams. Jurors are named by district, led by First District John T. Shults and others, across eight districts with lists of jurors including John F. Stevenson, Madison Towers, Harry B. Wright, Bernard C. Ringgold, and Frank H. Doerr among many names.

The Bureau Slavery Relic Of Caroline Faces Oblivion

A derelict two story Freemen’s Bureau building near Federalsburg and Preston highways near Denton faces ruin unless restoration efforts succeed. Built after the Civil War to aid newly freed slaves, it sheltered and educated colored children on the upper floor until 1910 and served as a sanctuary and symbol of human rights.

Major E B Garey Named State Police Head

Governor Nice selects Major Enoch B Garey a West Point graduate and former St Johns College president to lead the Maryland State Police, succeeding Major J Purdon Wright with a $4 000 yearly salary. Garey, 52, native of Caroline County, has a distinguished military and academic career including service in the Philippines China and France and as aide to Gen Funston and commandant at the Citadel. He co authored the Plattsburg Manual and later led St Johns College after resigning military posts amid a leave dispute.
