Mason and Dixon Line Survey and Remapping History
A 1763 survey by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon to mark the Mason and Dixon line between Pennsylvania and Maryland laid out a mile marked stone array. The line, cost about 300000 and took three years to complete, was later remapped in 1849 and 1903 with revived accuracy and a few acres shifted to Maryland. Stones carried Penn and Baltimore arms and monograms, and the modern revival ensures stones align as travelers pass the line.
