Historical vote patterns show Democrats resilient through cycles
A Philadelphia Record review notes that major parties often shift power across cycles. It cites 1862 Lincoln’s minority presidency, 1876 Hayes win with Electoral Commission aid, 1890 Democrats triumphs, 1894 Wilson tariff, 1908 Taft Republicans, and 1916 post Payne Aldrich shift, arguing Democrats need not fear 1916 results.
