Governor Nice accepted the resignation of John M. Dennis from the University of Maryland board of regents and named ex Senator Harry H. Nuttle of Caroline county to fill the vacancy. Rieman named Banking Board member. Warren F. Sterling becomes Banking Commissioner. Nuttle a former state senator and president of the Maryland Farm Bureau Federation, praised for agricultural work and quick swearing in last Tuesday.

Denton and North East clash as league opens Sunday

Federation To Meet At Preston On November 6

The Caroline Counts Federation of Women’s Clubs will hold its semi annual meeting in Preston at the Methodist Episcopal Church next Wednesday November 6. Morning speakers include Mass Frank M loadiey of Chevy Chase president of the Maryland Federation of Women’s Clubs Mrs John Paul Troy of Baltimore vice president of the State organization and Miss Mary E Church of Baltimore executive secretary of the Maryland League For Crippled Children. A report from the Annapolis state federation meeting will be given by Mrs J H Summerfield of Denton who presides. Afternoon program features Dramatic Bits of Life reading by Mrs Sallie Sharp Messick of Selford Del a vocal solo by Mrs Cleveland Smith of Easton and an address by an as yet unnamed speaker. A Federalsburg committee is arranging the afternoon program excluding music.

Pennsy to survey patrons on collection and delivery service

The Pennsylvania Railroad plans a systematic patron survey to improve its collection and delivery service. Questionnaires will be distributed by local agents to learn preferred hours, in transit times, dependability, use of other transport, and interest in reduced less than carload rates for 100 to carload minimums.

Tag Day For Caroline County Nurses Board Support

Saturday November 9 tags will be sold across county towns by women’s clubs to fund the Caroline County Nursing Board. Proceeds fund public health services including transport for indigent patients, newborn layettes, free home care pamphlets, and county health work. A key coming year project is supplying hot lunches to every child in school, aiding teachers and PTAs during cold weather.

Infant births exceed deaths in Maryland in nine months

Maryland records show 20 615 live births and 1265 infant deaths from January to September 1935, compared with 20 792 births and 1112 infant deaths a year earlier. Infant mortality stood at 61 per 1000 live births in 1935 versus 68 in 1934, with deaths mainly from early infancy diseases, digestive and respiratory illnesses.
