Bay Street to Miles River Road and the Bridge to Baltimore

A reflective hometown vignette recalls Bay Street and Miles River road on the town’s outskirts. The narrator recalls the carriage factory, blacksmith Frank, the paint and upholstery shops, and the Oyster shell crusted roadbed. The Miles River bridge connects to the Baltimore steamer and overlooks the Chapel, the Anchorage, and the Villa. Crabbing from the bridge and later bike races with safety bikes fill days of youth. Nearby Dawson’s pound and meadow life with cows and familiar fates anchor a memory of childhood and fishing with a pin worm bait.
