List Of Prospective Graduates In Caroline Schools

Caroline County schools announce year end closure on Tuesday June 7 with graduation ceremonies for 145 graduates beginning Sunday June 5 at church services. High school diplomas to be awarded June 6 or 7 at five high schools. The list names prospective graduates from Caroline High Greensboro Preston Federalsburg Ridgely and Lockerman schools along with colored high school students.

Denton Captures Annual Track And Field Olympics

The twenty fourth Caroline County Athletic Meet held in Denton featured Class A and Class C divisions with Denton and Federalsburg topping their groups. Individual events crowned Denton in Class A and Federalsburg in Class C, with numerous relays and dashes led by Denton and Greensboro competitors.

Harry J. Nuttle of Denton, son of Mr and Mrs Harry H Nuttle, has been named among America's outstanding college students by Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges from Dickinson College Carlisle PA His biography will appear in the annual volume representing over 475 institutions Selection honors extracurriculars athletics and leadership roles driven his inclusion He aims to pursue a vocation in refrigeration of vegetables for commercial use

A warm dry week with sun and mild temperatures saw mean weekly temperatures 5 to 6 degrees above normal and 10 percent above normal sunshine. Grains are mostly good to excellent. grasses and pastures vary from good to poor in spots. Wheat rye and barley headed and tall. oats up. potatoes peas and oats planted or sown in Alleghany Mountain region. Tobacco, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and corn planted. fruit trees flowering with strawberries ripening. overall growing season 10 to 16 days ahead. rain needed for grasses and pastures. John R. Weeks.

New School Officers Elected and Studio Programs Reported

On Tuesday May 10 an all school assembly introduced and accepted next year’s Student Council officers President Robert Thawley Vice president Kathleen Hollis Secretary treasurer Mariana Everngain and a report on the athletic meet. Denton led in Class A with 157%4 points plus 58% for a 216% total while Federalsburg, Greensboro, Ridgely and others posted scores. Guest speaker 4-H worker Daddy Jenkins urged go-getter effort and Jesus’ way to happiness. Stamp Club officers Archie Horner George Theis Anne Breeding were elected. Eastern Shore Olympiad at Salisbury May 14 announced with stamps cachets. Freshman Civics May group details listed. Senior portraits feature Billy Merriken Ella Mae Wright Clyde Pentz Charlotte Butler Nelson Fearins Christine McNeal Van Whiting Gretna Fountain and more profiled. Our annual exhibit, musical and amateur shows were a success with winners Bobby Smith and Freddie Irwin.

Ways of Preventing War Outlined Here

State Commander Bruce Baer of Westminster outlined at a Denton courthouse meeting that profit motive drives war and that a universal service act would stabilize prices and labor, draft ages 21 to 31, tax corporate net income, and curb war profits. He urged neutrality, cited World War origins, denounced subversive groups, and defended American Legion values of peace and preparedness while stressing democracy and veterans’ needs.
