Heavey Trucks Must Reduce Speed In Delaware
Growers and shippers from the lower Del-Mar-Va Peninsula oppose Delaware traffic rules that require trucks weighing 6,000 pounds or more to slow from 35 to 25 mph. State officials cite a sharp rise in heavy truck traffic and highway damage as the season begins.
Truck Speed Rule Slows Growers Deliveries Through Delaware
Growers and shippers complain that a twenty five mile per hour limit in Delaware costs nearly an hour on the forty five mile trip through Delmar to Washington. A Virginia diner packing produce to New York says trips now take eleven to eleven and a half hours, up from ten. Delaware State Police actively enforce the regulation, warning drivers and promising severe action for noncompliance. Exceptions allow trucks under six thousand pounds and those returning empty or with pneumatic tires to travel at thirty five miles per hour.
