Senator Joseph C O Mahoney argues democracy faces its greatest test from the spread of authoritarian ideas and the risk of national socialism. He warns that public debt will test loyalty, urges restoring citizen control over government and economy, and stresses that free government requires free enterprise and private property. Aphids Movement to Peas Spreads Across Maryland Areas
County Agent G W Clendaniel notes Dr Ditman of the University of Maryland reports aphis migration from alfalfa to peas has begun this week with few adults on peas but rising as warm weather continues. Control likely May 10 to 15 in Perryman Denton Easton areas with earlier action on the Southern Eastern Shore. Farmers should ready spraying gear. Dr Ditman advises 3 pounds Derrie root powder plus 1/4 pound wetting agent per 100 gallons water, applied 125 to 150 gallons per acre. Dust options include 0.5 percent rotenone with activator, or rotenone dust plus nicotine at 70 pounds per acre. In windy inland areas, spray or dust should be applied at night or early morning. Ditman also suggests 0.5 percent Rotenone Victory Garden Dust for small plots.
