New Ferry Across Bay In Operation
The 207-foot 730-passenger steel motor ferry Governor Harry W. Nice began service on the Annapolis Claiborne route. The ceremony included Maryland leaders and a renaming of a reconditioned ferry. The Nice features an 1400 horsepower diesel and double-ended drive, with key officials aboard from Maryland and Baltimore.

Maryland Rep Wins Test Case for Veteran's Family
Representative T Alan Goldsborough of Maryland announced a three year battle with the Veterans Administration yielded a decision in Crisfield establishing a precedent for paying benefits to a veteran's dependents when the veteran is missing. The case began with Jesse H Davis a World War veteran who disappeared after years of full non service disability relief and whose family of five in Crisfield struggled. The Board of Veterans Appeals reversed the Roanoke office and granted total disability of service origin to the dependents, despite earlier VA denial and an existing regulation limiting benefits when a veteran's whereabouts are unknown.
