Eastern Shore trade drains to the north as state ties fray
The Del Mar Va Association spends about 65 000 yearly to promote a potential new state and joint resources of fourteen counties. Freight from the Eastern Shore to Baltimore fell from 102 million to 21 million between 1913 and 1915, then rose briefly but dropped again, with 1922 barely over twenty million. Lack of car ferries and harbor work halts have hurt water transport and port access. Lawmakers from nine Eastern Shore counties and Baltimore city could leverage majorities to push policy action.
