The Maryland State Roads Commission was informed that Maryland will lose one third of its Federal Aid road funds under Hayden Cartwright Act provisions. Letter to Chairman McDonald from Thomas Keefe notes diversions of motor vehicle revenues for non highway use in 1936 and 1937, reducing Maryland’s apportionment by 341666.66 dollars from 1,025,000. The hit comes amid concerns over road safety and adequacy, sparking debate on tax use versus highway funding.
