Goslin Mortgage Tax Bill Favored by Committee
The Ways and Means Committee reports Mr. Goslin's mortgage tax bill favorably. It would tax all mortgages and debts secured by mortgage executed after May first. Clerks would provide lists of unreleased mortgages to county boards and Baltimore city tax court each year by May first. The measure aims to raise revenue for tax relief but faces objections, especially in section three. It includes protections for mortgagors against further covenants and seeks to reach large mortgage holders to reduce tax rates. The article also notes a political snippet about Mudd in the Fifth Maryland Congressional District and thanks to public documents from Sen. E. R. Wilson and Caroline county legislators.
