J Howard Griffin a 69 year old dry goods merchant at 44 Main Street East Orange fought off a negro robber who battered him with a lead filled hose blackjack as he tried to steal the day's receipts. Griffin required twelve stitches for scalp wounds and lies in Orange Memorial Hospital with uncertain recovery while police pursue the assailant.
