World’s Fair budgets rise with 1893 plans and past expositions

A review contrasts 1893 Chicago appropriation levels with Philadelphia’s 1876 Centennial totals. It notes 26 states have committed about 32,775,000 for 1893, Chicago’s city funding at 5,000,000, and the U.S. government planning 1,500,000 for Chicago after spending 649,250 at Philadelphia. The piece argues the era’s growth warrants a far larger fair. The letter then shifts to Nicaraguan Canal worries and political maneuvering in the South amid Democratic party tensions.
