Growing Crops Without Soil Described by Scientist
Dr. W F Gericke of the University of California demonstrated growing crops in shallow water tanks with mineral salts, producing as much as 24 bushels of potatoes per acre. Tomatoes, cantaloupes, celery, papayas and flowers were also grown. Large commercial tanks are under trial in the United States, including more than three acres near Easton Maryland. The method shows economic promise for food and other plants without soil. experts suggest future farming may favor tanks over hoes.
