Unusual Farmhouse Robbery Ends With Butchered Cow
In Federalsburg, thieves entered Isaac Hi Jones's pasture and killed and butchered a cow there, leaving only the hide. The animal had been brought for summer pasturing by Samuel Lane, Jones's son in law. Neighbors express indignation as thefts of livestock have occurred before, but this is the first case of a cow being butchered and carried away. The hide was left, possibly to avoid identification by the owner. The killing is blamed on the cow's fatigue after a long day.
