Del Mar Va Balloon Entry Gains Publicity Across Nation
Del Mar Va Peninsula gained extensive publicity from its National Balloon Race entry in Akron Ohio last Sunday. Though forced down by a storm and missing top prizes, 75 000 spectators saw the Del Mar Va display The Peninsula of Plenty on both sides of the balloon, and circulars invited visitors to learn about Del Mar Va and its drought battered agricultural region. The effort earned broad newspaper and wire service coverage, with many metropolitan papers publishing features and photographs. Local business leaders from Maryland Delaware and Virginia contributed 10 to 30 dollars to fund the entry highlighting regional commerce and civic pride.

Horn Worm Threat To Tomatoes Reported In Several Counties
Reports from three counties note serious horn worm damage to tomatoes with additional injury observed in a fourth. The pest ranges from immature forms to full grown larvae about 5 inches, pupates in soil, and returns as gray sphinx moths. Sprays of arsenate of lead and Kayso or dusts containing calcium arsenate provide control. apply after fruit sets and repeat every 12 to 14 days, with dusts effective on some farms. Worms have appeared in Caroline county and growers are advised to spray to prevent severe losses.
