Hat Fit for a Queen Turns Grim Tale of Ceres Statue

An interview with Elmo Scott Watson recounts Frank E Hagan bragging about his Chicago Board of Trade observatory, perched above the city. A windblown incident near the Statue of Ceres leads to a hat being blown from a smokestack and landing across the statue’s brow, described with dry humor by Gallagher and observers. The tale blends industry, architecture, and fate with a sardonic nod to chance.
