County Commissioners in Court over Clerk to Treasurer Pay
In Centreville the mandamus case of County Commissioners versus Treasurer Whitby opened before a full bench. The dispute centers on a legisla tive act redefining clerk duties and pay, and on whether Downing property should be taxed in Caroline or Wicomico counties. The court held Whitby must act as clerk but be paid by the commissioners for those services, and the case proceeds to resolve the tax location of Downing's personal property.

Queen Anne's Railroad studies specs for a new boat
The official board of the Queen Anne's Railroad Company weighs specifications for a new boat though nothing definite is decided. There is little chance of changes to operating arrangements this year. The favorite is not withdrawn and no replacement boat is planned. President Besley notes new boats meeting traffic demands are hard to procure or charter. The needed craft would be built to the company's design. No boat will be bought or built before next season.
