Wheat Profit in Caroline County Despite Low Yields

Dr. F P Herr of Ridgely says wheat remains profitable in Caroline, best on large farms. Ninety growers harvested 3743 acres yielding 63196 bushels, about 17 bu per acre. At 80 cents per bushel with $8.50 production per acre, net per acre is 3.66, with straw added profit rises. Even with high costs and low yields, wheat farming shows a good margin in the district.
