Library Trustees Move Toward County Wide Service
The Caroline County Board of Library Trustees met Monday with by-laws adopted and agreed to transfer bookstock and equipment from Ridgely Community Library and the Denton Woman's Club to the Caroline County Public Library. Plans include a possible bookmobile for Kent and Caroline Counties and further cooperation with Kent County to share resources. A six to eight month lead time was noted for building a sizeable stock. President Dallas Blades and Librarian William N. Raleigh will attend a Shore-wide meeting July 20 in Talbot County to discuss cooperation.

County 4-H Dairy Show At Downes Station In July
The Caroline County 4-H Dairy Show was held Saturday July 15 at Downes Station with 33 animals shown by 22 exhibitors. Juniors competed in Holstein and Jerseys with multiple winners named from Ridgely and Federalsburg. Senior division winners included Harry Nagel Louis Fuchs and Ellen Fuchs, while J D Neal swept Breeders trophies and champion Guernsey honors.

Collision Kills Two in Southern Maryland
In a Sunday night head on crash near LaPlata Maryland, Eugene Thomas Jr 28 of Marydel and Leonard George Suttman 47 of Washington DC died. Thomas wife Katy 22 and sister Margaret 9 were injured admitted to Physicians Memorial Hospital LaPlata with multiple injuries.

REA Holds An Area Development Meeting
More than forty government officials and civic leaders met with Choptank Electric Cooperative to discuss rural area development programs. Junior High Camp At Camp Mardela This Week
Twenty eight campers attend the second Junior High Camp at Camp Mardela near Denton. The 12 and 13 year olds, led by deans Oscar and Mrs Mankamyer of Easton, begin sessions Sunday afternoon with planned activities including a sleep out picnic, moonlight hike, swimming, campfires, nature studios, crafts and a candlelight service. The camp closes Saturday afternoon, with three more Junior age camps to follow this season led by Hobart Harvey and by Elktor leaders Galen Crist and associates from July 23 to August 5.

Automobile Crash Kills Ridgely Couple in Denton Route 404
Ridgely merchant John Charles Stevenson and his wife Evelyn Wyatt Stevenson died last Monday night near Denton when their car was struck from behind on Route 404. Jimmy Lee Dunn, 20, driver of the other car, was arrested for manslaughter by auto and drunken driving. Investigators said the Stevensons slowed for an approaching vehicle and Dunn, driving for D and D Shelter Co. of Denton, passed the Stevenson car from behind, driving it off the road. Dunn is held in Caroline County Jail in default of $1500 bail with a hearing to be set after a conference with state police and State's Attorney J. Owen Knotts.

Diane Brown of Denton and Mary Ann Uber of Greensboro won top honors at 4-H District Demonstration Day in Centreville. Diane’s cherry pie won champion in a pie contest, and Mary Ann Uber demonstrated selecting and using accessories in clothing. Both will attend the State Contest at Marsland State Fair in September. Bonnie Lou Brown, 10, of Denton Ferrapins Club, earned a blue ribbon for Let’s Make Biscuits. Accompanying the girls were Mrs. Nancy Wirth, assistant home demonstration agent, Mrs. Lloyd Uber, and Mrs. Melvin Brown.
