Memorandum on the Mexican bean beetle control

State department notes early beans matured before beetle larvae caused damage though later plantings were harmed without control. Dusts such as 20-20-60 copper arsenate lime dust and magnesium arsenate lime dust 1 to 4 prove safe and effective. copper dust also aids disease control on lime beans. Sprays using magnesium arsenate 1 lb per 50 gallons or calcium arsenate 1 lb per 46-50 Bordeaux mix perform well with proper equipment. Canners, truckers, market gardeners, and home gardeners should protect water beans from the second beetle brood by plowing down harvested fields and starting systematic spraying or dusting as adults appear, repeating every 8-10 days until pods form or infestation is cleared.
