Mrs. Merriken Named To TB Executive Committee
Mrs. W. L. Merriken of Denton was named temporary chairman of the Eastern Shore Tuberculosis Conference’s executive committee at its first regular meeting on Thursday January 20 at Tidewater Inn Easton. A constitution and by laws were adopted scheduling officer elections for March. The conference began in 1954 as a federation of local tuberculosis associations contributing to a shared budget. Members include William B. Matthews Jr Francis J. Gibson for the Maryland Tuberculosis Association along with Rev. Richard C. Hubbard Vernon Sultenfuss Shelby Jarman William N. Kirby and Hamilton P. Fox Jr. The group plans quarterly meetings in June September December and March with tentative program and budget steps for the new year. Miss Clara Mergler announced a film Within Man’s Power on WBOC TV at 630 pm January 29.

Weaver to Speak at Lincoln Day Dinner in Denton
Congressman Phil Weaver of Nebraska will be the principal speaker at the 3rd annual Lincoln Day Dinner. Hosted by the Republican Women's Club of Caroline County and the Republican State Central Committee, the event takes place at the Denton firehouse on Thursday Feb 10 at 7 pm. Weaver, 35, was elected last November to the seat once held by Senator Carl Curtis. An infantry combat veteran of World War II with the 17th Airborne Division in Europe, he now works as an automobile dealer. Tickets are available from club or committee members.

Cub Scouts Rail Trip From Bridgeville
More than 40 Cub Scouts from Denton Pack 265 joined a Pennsylvania Railroad excursion as the January culmination of a Railroading theme. They rode from the County Health Office to Bridgeville then Delmar to view mail and freight trains, diesel and steam engines, before returning home with guidance from Cub Master Frank Gerhardt and Assistant Cub Master Tom Robbins and many den mothers.

EK. T. Orme has been named area Advance Gifts Chairman for the Boy Scout Camp Expansion Fund Campaign.
