Curious river trial in Burma ends in a drowning contest
A report recalls a curious legal ceremony where two wealthily robed phyas in Burma, claiming ownership of slaves, faced a river trial by water. Each sent a chosen champion to dive for their side while crowds watched as the first diver surfaced after two minutes and fifteen seconds, followed by a second diver who barely survived and claimed the win.
