The Sonoma Valley name, meaning Valley of the Moon, is linked to a 100 year old Native claim that the full moon rises seven times over the east mountains between Sonoma and Bella Vista vineyards. An elderly informant from the Nick Carrigan ranch suggests the phrase deep moon or many moons explains the naming.
