First District Resident Commits Suicide at Home
John Safron, 50, a farmer living alone on the Goldsboro-Dover road near Goldsboro, was found dead in his kitchen from a self-inflicted shotgun blast. Coroner Henry Wilkinson ruled death by his own action, noting Safron had been unseen for days. A neighbor discovered the body after knocking failed to get a response. Safron had tied the gun trigger to his foot, then placed the weapon under his chin. He had resided in Caroline County for about three and a half years, with initial license issued in Franklin, New Jersey. He appeared to have about $5,000 in cash when he arrived, owned a paid-for farm, and had no known debts. Few dollars were found at the house, leaving the motive unclear.
