In 1775 near Shoreham Nathan Beman, son of farmer, guided Ethan Allen’s detachment to the storming of Fort Ticonderoga. His knowledge of the fort and stealth enabled a surprise, freeing garrison and allowing capture with Allen leading. The victory gained release from siege and the fort later dismantled by General St. Clair.
A Philadelphia patrol officer, following department rules, improvised to avoid a fine after accidentally calling a patrol wagon. He paused, spotted a drunken local, claimed a mistake, and had the man jailed for the night before being released at dawn. The officer kept 50 cents as a humorous savings.
