Beetle Trapping Yields Major Catches in Infested Areas
Properly baited traps catch millions of Japanese beetles but are only 60 to 70 percent effective. In Maryland trials, 1,200 traps over 50 square miles collected 47 tons of beetles. Elkton trials produced 7% barrels per 1,000 traps, and in Cambridge traps yielded over 80 gallons last year. Trapping uses Geraniol bait to lure beetles, aiding movement out of crops.
