Maryland Farm Youth Delegate Writes Home From Mexico
Tom Giddings reports from Rancho EF. Tintero outside Queretaro on a large dairy farm owned by Senor Julio Muller. About 154 milking Holsteins yield around 800 liters daily sent to Mexico City. Cows housed year round with no pasture, fed alfalfa fodder and ground wheat. Most work done by hand, wages 1.5 pesos a day for laborers and 2 pesos for milkers. Two Allis Chalmers tractors handle plowing and land prep. machinery costly and scarce knowledge limits use. Rich and poor are the two classes in rural Mexico.
