Checkers And Other Snippets From The era
A mixed page of notes on social mores and games includes a tongue in cheek list of vices and cautions about knowledge. It then turns to a brief history of checkers from ancient Egypt to modern play, noting Joshua Sturges and his Guide to the Game of Drafts as enduring authority. Also covered are rising prices for women’s hair, the continental trade, and a quip about poker as a gentleman’s game depending on players.
