Insurance feature in corn hog program

County Agent W H Evans describes the corn hog program as a crop insurance plan. Each signer gets guaranteed income from land removed from production plus a hog reduction payment of 5 per head on 75 percent of the adjusted average hogs for 1932 and 1933. Guarded payments apply regardless of pig mortality. Also for corn reduction, growers receive 30 cents per bushel for each contracted acre, based on past yields, with payment assured even if the rest of the 1934 crop fails. The program allows growing soil-building crops and preserves soil fertility while not harvesting the contracted land.
