Editor Fred G Usilton Dies at Chestertown Home
Fred G Usilton aged Eastern Shore editor of Kent County News died at his Chestertown home after a brief illness. Born February 8 1867 he would have been eighty one. He led the Kent News for about 60 years and helped merge it with Chestertown Transcript. He founded and presided over the Kent County Savings Bank Kent Mutual Fire Insurance and Kent Building and Loan Company. He served on Washington College board of governors and Kent County Welfare Board and wrote histories of Kent County and Chestertown. He is survived by his wife Annie Hurlock Usilton a son two grandchildren two brothers and a sister. Physicians cited age infirmities as cause of death.

Gray Ladies Service Corps To Be Formed At Memorial Hospital
An Easton initiative seeks a Gray Lady Service Corps for Memorial Hospital after approval by the Eastern Area Red Cross in Alexandria. The local corps held its formal organization on February 10 in the hospital’s third floor maternity classroom, launching a basic 10 lecture course led by Mrs. J. J. Shipherd with Red Cross staff. Volunteers from the Denton Auxiliary attended and the program outlined hospital service by Gray Ladies at Walter Reed since 1918, emphasizing voluntary, non nursing aide roles under medical supervision. Certificates require completion of the course and a 50 hour annual service minimum.

Two County Bridges to Be Widened on Route 313
The Maryland State Roads Commission plans widening on two concrete girder bridges on Route 313 near Denton heading to Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City. Width will increase from 22 to 32 feet. The Watts Creek span and the Herring Run span will gain concrete wings to support steel beams and slabs, with steel hand rails. No roadway grading or surfacing included.

Three men died and two were rescued when a section of the Ocean highway bridge collapsed under a truck and a car near Rehoboth Beach.
