Speeding saves little time and raises crash risk
Keystone Automobile Club manager August G. Detlof argues that driving faster saves minimal travel time. He illustrates with a ten mile trip: at 20 mph 30 minutes, at 30 mph 20, at 50 mph 12, at 60 mph 10, at 70 mph 8.6, at 80 mph 7.5. He says above 50 mph the time saved is negligible while accident frequency and severity rise due to reduced perception and reaction time.
