William J. Neal Honorably Discharged From Army
Cpl. William J. Neal of RD 2 Denton received an honorable discharge from active service at Fort Meade on Feb 3 after two years. His key assignment was with the 7th Quartermaster Company, 7th Infantry Division in Japan and Korea for 17 months. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Wingate Neal of RD 3 Denton and married Elma Jean Reed of RD 2 Denton. Previously he worked at DuPont's in Seaford.

Mr Earle L Isaacs and Mr Francis Owens of Southern States Denton Coop returned from a two day farm service conference in Salisbury and Baltimore conducted by Southern States Cooperative for managers and employees of local service agencies. The meetings aim to deepen understanding of the cooperative and its supplies to better serve farmers in the area. The cooperative, the nation’s largest farmer cooperative by membership with 283 000 members, has agencies in six states. Officials from central headquarters in Richmond led talks on seed feed fertilizer and farm supplies with district manager Robert W Durham in charge.

Basic Sewing Training Meeting In Denton
The first in a series of Basic Sewing for Home makers' Clubs was held last Thursday February 3 in Denton. Eight clubs signed up to send leaders though icy roads and a school holiday reduced attendance. Troop 165 Scouts Celebrate 45th Anniversary Night
Boy Scouts of America Troop 165 held a Parents Night at the Community House in Denton to mark 45 years of Scouting in America. Eighteen scouts and 23 parents watched scoutcraft demonstrations exhibits and entertainment as areas of respect for God loyalty to country and care of body were shown including a flag ceremony and Star Spangled Banner. Twelve scouts were announced to attend Camp Rodney this summer.

Fatal Ridgely man dies in Delaware crash
A 26 year old Ridgely resident was killed in a Saturday afternoon auto accident five miles north of Georgetown Delaware. Driver William Isaac Carey died at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital from a fractured skull. Slippery dirt side of a nine foot road contributed to the wreck as Carey attempted to pass another car and skid into a concrete abutment, overturning his vehicle. He was taken to hospital by Sussex County American Legion Post No. 8 for treatment. Surviving are his wife Shirley Ann two brothers Joseph and Lawrence and a sister Mrs Mary Burris. Services were held at Hardesty Funeral Home Bridgeville with interment in St Johnstown Cemetery near Greenwood. Injured in the crash was James Callahan, 20, of Ridgely, treated and released from Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.

The Peninsula Girl Scout Council announces its first annual Cookie Sale from March 7 to 21, during Girl Scout Week March 7 to 12. Cookies cost 40 cents a box with 8 cents per box returning to the local troop. Funds support a Peninsula Council camp and general camping programs. The top selling troop earns the Girl Scout Achievement Award and each Scout gets an honorary pin. the overall top seller becomes Miss Cookie Queen of 1955, to be honored at the May Council meeting and Spring Rally. Fire destroys barn on Den ton Ridgely road farm
John A. Fuchs faces an $8,000 loss after a fire totally destroyed a barn and its contents on the Den ton Ridgely River Road farm. The Denton and Ridgely Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the Wednesday alarm. The blaze started from a heat lamp used for young pigs, burning five sows, about 56 pigs, two stock shoots, and a hay loft. The barn had recent repairs and the loss was partly insured.

McCain Ten-Year Man Leads Maryland Roads Board
Russell H. McCain, appointed to the State Roads Commission in 1945, has served longer than any member and has chaired the body for four years. From WWII through the Bay Bridge project, the 12-year road program, and the Baltimore cross-harbor tunnel, he has guided major rebuilding. McCain, a Frederick resident and former alderman, served under three governors.

The Fastern Shore Barracks 101 of the Veterans of World War I held an installation Sunday Feb 6 at the American Legion Home near Denton. Officers named for 1955 include Commander Leonard Van Schaik and Adjutant O E Roberts with 179 members overall. new trustees Harry Jopp Jim Knox and Robert Mueller were elected. National officers praised Barracks leadership and announced plans for a Women’s Auxiliary and a Maryland state department.

Guardsmen to Train at Three Separate Military Posts
National Guardsmen of the 29th Infantry Division will train at three Army camps this year. The main Field Training will be at Indiantown Gap Reservation Pennsylvania from July 23 to August 6 1955 with 7000 men from Maryland Virginia and West Virginia. Regiments training at Pennsylvania include 175th from Baltimore 115th from Maryland counties and 116th Virginia. Tank companies from Hyattsville Baltimore and Lexington Virginia will train at Fort Knox Kentucky. Virginia anti aircraft units will train at Fort Miles Delaware. Major General Henry C Evans of Baltimore commands the 29th.
