Governor O Conor aims to abolish real estate tax statewide
Governor Herbert R. O'Conor pledged continued reductions in the State real estate tax toward its complete elimination. He cited the tax dropping from 23.35 cents to 12 cents, with plans to reach 11 cents next year and to abolish it entirely. He noted bond debt down from 48,247,000 to 27,000,000, with further cuts planned to 25,000,000 by June 30. The fiscal program aims to finance postwar construction with low bond issues and current funds, saving 6,300,000 in four years to support a large building program without future burdens.
