The Twentieth Century Community Club enjoyed a full attendance at the home of Mr and Mrs Archie Spies on the 27th. Mrs Spies and Miss Marie Perry led a demonstration that was a great success as shown by the empty plates. The next meeting is scheduled for February 10 at the home of Mr and Mrs Thomas and Thompson. all are urged to attend.
County commissioners approved a 3.6 mile road program for the coming season. Plan includes 1.6 miles Ridgely to Greensboro and 1.6 miles Denton to Tuckahoe Bridge with work to extend next year. Total funds about 61,000 due to reduced Federal Post Road money and prior year repayment. The program was approved by the State Roads Commission on Feb. 3.
Executive Committee of the County Council of Religious Education outlines a year of events. A Children's Division Institute will be held in Ridgely on February 25 led by Lena Lewis with four division groups. A County Young People’s Convention in Denton April 1 discusses Peace with four divisions and notable speakers. A County Convention is planned for Greensboro around May 11. Daily Vacation Bible Schools are planned for summer. Budget goals include seventy five dollars for the state budget and fifty dollars for county expenses from subscriptions and churches.
The Provident State Bank of Preston reopened last Wednesday after closure in October. A. Fletcher Sisk was elected president with an eight-person board including Harry B. Wright and Harry M. Hollis. Officials report a strong opening and optimism for growth. Depositors will divert about 25 percent of deposits to a guarantee fund to sustain solvency, with stockholders’ subscriptions backing the plan. The bank, capitalized at $265,000, aims to prevent withdrawals from destabilizing its revival.
Walter Hampden and a company of seventy five present Cyrano de Bergerac at Ford's Theatre Baltimore for four performances February 11 12 13. The production travels by seven car special train and is billed as the season’s event with Hampden’s famed portrayal promising a heroic romantic experience despite economic uncertainties.
