Three Junior Chamber of Commerce missionaries from Salisbury held talks with Denton business men last Tuesday to spark a local J C Chapter. Teacher Raises Cut Turnover andBoost Hiring
Carlton H Porter president of the Caroline County Board of Education says raises reduced turnover by 8 percent this year and allowed signups of more than three times as many first year teachers as in 1960 61. At the Maryland State Teachers Association annual dinner January 24 at the Tidewater Inn Easton he urged adoption of the 1959 minimum salary schedule raising first year to 4000 and top step to 6000 with Caroline County set to receive 56580 in state aid. He noted many long serving teachers are paid at the bottom of the scale and warned of upcoming replacement needs as 15 percent of teachers are over 50.

Caroline County 4-H Electric Program Receives Plaque
Caroline County 4-H leaders and members were honored with a wall plaque for the 1961 State 4-H Electric Program during the Oldey Youth Conference in Baltimore. The Westinghouse Educational Foundation funds the program, supporting demonstrations and workshops on lamps motors and lighting. Power adviser O. O. Stivers and A. W. Reddish assisted in coordinating the county wide effort.
