Denton National Bank Names F.E. Yeoman Director
The Denton National Bank board declared an extra 50 cent per share dividend in addition to a 1.75 semi annual dividend. Francis E. Yeoman was named to the board to fill the vacancy caused by J. Roland Chaffinch's death. The combined dividend of 2.25 will be paid December 31 to stockholders of record December 27. Yeoman, former general manager of Choptank Electric Cooperative, has led the Cambridge office of Eastern Shore Public Service Co and resides in Denton.

Peoples Bank Declares 20 Percent 1960 Dividend
E Theodore Orme executive vice president of Peoples Bank of Denton announced at the December 14 1960 board meeting a regular 3 percent semi annual dividend plus a 10 percent extra dividend to stockholders of record December 15 1960. The total 20 percent annual dividend equals $2.00 per share for 1960 and is described as the highest ever paid. Also notes a January 9 1961 safety circus by Officer Pressley in Denton Schools.

The Farm Bureau Discussion Group No 6 held its annual Christmas party at Mr. and Mrs. J Boone Jarrell home near Ridge ly with 18th century attire and era items. A turkey dinner followed by games music and entertainment from the early days. Mrs J Charles Stevenson and Mrs George Clendaniel organized the program. A Maryland Farm Bureau 1961 annual meeting feature, Lord Raincoats and Other Miracles, will showcase a 2 PM Thursday visual program titled Research On Parade. Frank Teuton, U.S. Department of Agriculture official, demonstrates over 100 research items with live show format and audience participation. The exhibit covers raincoats from hog lard to wrinkle resistant fabrics and other innovations, traveling statewide for more than a decade and presented to diverse audiences including President Eisenhower and Farm Bureau groups. Teuton, a Maryland resident with Tennessee roots, has spent 30 years with USDA and holds superior service and outstanding performance citations.

National Association of Manufacturers polling 1 600 delegates at the 65th Congress of American Industry in New York finds half expect their company profits to rise in 1961, 11 percent see declines, and 34 percent foresee gains for their own industries. Two thirds anticipate stronger foreign competition pressures, and 37 percent expect payroll cuts. Respondents favor fiscal restraint, tax reform, and union monopoly curbs to spur growth.

Busy Christmas Weekend for State Troopers
State Police record shows a string of icy roadway accidents from Dec 21 to Dec 25 across Denton Ridgely Greensboro and nearby areas. Several drivers faced charges for improper parking license revocation reckless driving and failure to keep to the right of center while two crews assisted a trapped motorist and a fatal head-on crash left five seriously injured on Dec 25. No fatalities reported in the area over the holidays.

Edward Vansant Receives Knight of York Cross of Honour
Edward W. Vansant of Millington is awarded the Knight of the York Cross of Honour the York Rite’s highest degree. He is the 8179th recipient in 32 years in North America, after serving as Master of Chester Lodge 1948 High Priest 1955 Adoniram Council Master 1960 and Chesapeake Commandery Commander 1958. He joined Francis Scott Key Priory with election confirmed December 24. There are sixty Priories in North America with about 6,300 members.

Caroline County Garden Club Installs Its Officers
The Caroline County Garden Club held its December meeting on December 20 with retiring president Mrs. Austin R. Murphy hosting a Christmas luncheon for twenty members. Five baskets of fruit aided county residents and fifty Perry Point veterans received candy and cigarettes. At the 1960 Christmas Greens Conservation Show in Baltimore, members won seventeen ribbons. the club swept the entries. New officers elected for 1961 include Mrs. W. Edwin Unger as president, with Mrs. A. T. Blades as vice president and others serving as recording secretary, treasurer, and corresponding secretary.
