Caroline and Talbot Republicans Seek District Nominee
The Hillsborough meeting of May and June 1816 debated who should stand for Congress in the Sixth district. Culbreth of Caroline and Heyward of Talbot emerged as candidates, with Emory of Queen Anne's withdrawing. The Hillsborough district committee formally recommended Culbreth to the freemen, while Heyward pursued the Assembly ticket. six years later Heyward served one term in Congress.
