Free Enterprise Produces Abundance In Meat Supply

The piece argues that American meat production remains a free enterprise success, contrasting it with scarcity in Iron Curtain nations. It cites USDA style data: Americans average 85 pounds beef, 64.5 pork, 6.1 veal, 4.4 lamb annually, plus dairy and poultry. It notes workers need 20 minutes to earn a pound of meat, vs 35 minutes three decades ago, and meat price increases under 10 percent in ten years while earnings rise 37 percent.
