Dems Demand Immediate Repeal of Automobile Tax
The piece argues the three percent federal automobile tax is a wartime levy on transportation and should be repealed now that the war is long past. It criticizes President Coolidge for backing continued collection, noting car owners already pay multiple taxes and that the annual $75 million toll is undue when the government runs a large surplus. It cites rising commercial failures and Iowa bank closures as signs of uneasy prosperity as Congress plans a short session ending March 4.
