Political turmoil in Maryland Republicans over McComas leadership
The Maryland Republican split worsens with papers opposing Senator McComas leadership. Democrats gain momentum as dissidents consider running against the machine, while Maryland districts show united Democratic fronts and anti trust skepticism lingers across national figures. Samuel P. Spencer, born in 1858 in Cambridge and longtime Colorado resident since 1850, is noted as a probable Democratic governor nominee.

Remembering Slavery Days at Oakdale in Howard County
At Oakdale home of Elwin Warfield in Howard County, fourteen of the seventy former enslaved laborers on the two family properties returned for a reunion. They recalled kinship, kindness from “Old Mars” and “Old Miss,” Christmas mornings, the old library, a sideboard full of treats, and shared stories of coon hunts and corn huskings. A dinner of traditional Maryland fare flowed in the old quarters as a conch horn called them to eat. The event revived memories of a bygone era and the bond between former enslaved people and the Warfield family, though the absence of the master and mistress lingered.
